School to raise funds from charity golf event
SJK (C) YAK CHEE in Puchong plan to hold a charity golf tournament at the Bukit Jalil Golf and Country Club on Oct 14 to raise funds for the school.
The golf event is expected to raise about RM200,000. The money will be used to build a hall and canteen at the school.
To make the event a success, the SJK(C) Yak Chee School Hall and Building Committee have teamed up with Jalil Morning Golfers, a group of social golfers.
Committee chairman Raymond Liew said the school would need about RM4 million to build the hall and canteen.
“The golf tournament will be the first in the series of events to be organised by the school to raise the money required. We are grateful to Jalil Morning Golfers for their support. They have the contacts to get the players. We are expecting about 240 players for the golf tournament,'' said Liew.
SJK (C) Yak Chee is the biggest Chinese school in Puchong. It was built in 1930. The student enrolment stands at 3,700. Due to increasing development in Puchong, the student enrolment is expected to increase in the coming years.
SJK (C) Yak Chee Old Boys Association chairman Liong Yen Lam has also urged former students to participate in the golf tournament.
“Many of the school's former students are active in golf. The time has come for them to contribute to the school. Even those not active in golf, can contribute in terms of donation,'' said Liong.
For individual participants, the entry fee is RM300. The golf tournament will be followed by a gala dinner and a prize giving ceremony.
